22.2.10 Woodcraft Approval Guidelines

The art of the plane and lathe, woodcraft offers design opportunities for many of the tools used in the every day.

   - While not limited purely to wood, the use of metals, etc, should be the application a carpenter might use, as opposed to a jewelry whose mastery is with metal and jewels.

   - Wood commodities can be used for nearly any common wood in the real world or in game, that does not exist as its own individual commodity. EG: Redwood exists in game but not as an item, so wood can be used. Driftwood exists as its own commodity, so that is the one that should be used.

   - Tinderboxes must contain some sort of lighting mechanism that is suitable for Sapience's technology. Fluid lighters and mechanized strikers are not feasible at this time.

   - Vials cannot be made completely out of gems, crystals, or other materials that would otherwise relegated to Jewelcraft, nor made to mimic the artifact vials. Glass can be used, but should be fairly rudimentary.

   - Any item that overlaps with Taxidermy (trophy, specimens in jars, wall mounting, displays, etc) should use the Taxidermy talent, not approximated through other trades.

When designing a thaumizer, please keep in mind the following rules:
   - It needs to describe a grid of slots. If you want to mention the size of the grid, it's seven by seven
   - It must be crafted from wood

Other features all thaumizers have, that you don't have to explicitly describe but shouldn't contradict the existence of:
   - The seven by seven grid of slots is for holding ylemnic blocks. The center of each slot has a peg/rod of some kind upon which blocks are slid onto
   - An extra holder/slot/container that holds up to five keys (could split the five keys across multiple holders if you want)
   - An extra holder/slot/container that holds ylem dust

With the introduction of customising dhurives for sentinels, the following rules have been described:
   - A dhurive is a staff with weapon tips on either end; historically, a wooden stave with obsidian tips for slashing
   - The staff itself MUST be wood, though it may have metal inlays (such as gold, lumenite, so on)
   - The slashing tips on either end of the staff may be of any WEAPON SUITABLE material (often described in LOOKUP <metal>, such as LOOKUP GOLD. Gemstones are not acceptable as a weapon, though they may be used decoratively elsewhere on the dhurive.
   - You may NOT specify the type of wood used: this is determined by the sentinel in the selection of wood.
   - Wood/Obsidian are considered base ingredients and do not need to be independently included in the design. All other additional components will need to be added per any normal customized design.
   - To assemble a dhurive from a design, ASSEMBLE DHURIVE FROM <staff> USING DESIGN <design#>, as per AB DHURIVE ASSEMBLE.

Journals:
   - The use of the $(title$) and $(name$) tags may ONLY be employed in the creation of a journal.
   - Journals are unique in that they do not decay and require a special commodity (mageleather, purchased at v12747).
   - In all other aspects, journals follow the stand approval process as books, though they may have a little semi-magical flare, such as shimmering.
