8.5 Guild System

Guilds are powerful organizations with varying motives, composed of like-minded individuals. You may only join one guild at a time, which generally requires a certain level of allegiance. It is possible to sever your ties with a guild, but the cost is often high. HELP GUILD CHANGING explains this in more detail.

HELP GUILDS contains a list of guilds along with their Guildmasters. HELP <guild name> will show you detailed information on that guild.

Joining a Guild
---------------

For novices, guilds are tied to individual classes. You will be granted membership within a guild once you have completed your city's Academy (HELP ACADEMY). You may change your class at any time while a novice, using REPICK CLASS. However, you may need to seek Aaranu in Esterport if the class is tied to a different city.

NOTE: If you are a Wayfarer, Indorani, Bard, or Shapeshifter, you will need to speak to a guild's leadership to join, as these do not have their own class-focused guild. Some guilds may have certain requirements you must meet before being able to join their ranks. HELP <guild> will tell you who is online and able to assist.

Joining a Guild After Novicehood
--------------------------------

If you decide a guild isn't for you and you have already graduated, you will need to speak to a guild's leadership. Aaranu will only assist novices.

It is possible to be a member of a guild and yet hold a different class. Read HELP MULTICLASS for more information.

Guild Structure
---------------

A guild is composed of five ranks, and promotion through the ranks differs between guilds. The Guildmaster has the ability to create various positions within the guild, typically to aid with guild administration.

GUILD PRIVILEGES (or just GUILD PRIVS) will show you a list of guild-related commands that your guild rank gives you access to.

Leaving a Guild
---------------

If, for some reason, you become dissatisfied with your Guild, you may QUIT GUILD. If, in SCORE, it says that you are still an apprentice in your class, however, then you will _lose_ your guild skills, gaining back roughly 90% of the lessons you put into them. If you are not an apprentice anymore (by virtue of the fact that you have reached guild rank two in your guild), then you will retain all your skills intact.
