Addressed to: Everyone
Alright, most of you probably don't know me but that?s okay. You will
soon, hopefully. I am new to running the Ministry of Culture, but I hope
to impress at least half of you.
So to kick things off. Let's take advantage of that enthusiasm these
raids have stoked in our less combat experienced citizens with a combat
tournament. Before those who are like me and realize that some of the
older citizens would basically walk over us stop reading, let me state,
first and foremost, this is an amateur tournament. And we are doing this
on a honour system and common sense. If you try to enter as a
participant, and you ate two city enemies the month before, I will
politely say no.. since I will be too afraid that I will be desert if I
say anything sarcastic.
Now, before the experienced fighters stop reading, let me say there IS a
place for you in this event. This will be discussed later.
Event:
Whetstone Combat Tournament.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Times:
Registration will start from the moment of the posting of this and end
on the first of Chakros.
The preliminaries will end at latest on the first of Chakros on the year
of 344
The semifinals to finals will end as soon as possible after that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Registration:
If you are inexperienced in combat, despite level or skills learned,
within reason, you may, and should enter as a combatant. The rules of
each fight are standard. Artifacts are allowed though I hope a few
people show a little sporting spirit and try to keep the raw power
leveled so we have a good skill based tournament. Though this is by no
means required.
If, on the other hand, you could solo everyone entering the competition
as a fighter, you should consider registering as a "Sponsor."
In a sense, this tournament is a "team" tournament. Each participant,
should have a sponsor, unless all the skilled fighters got lazy in their
old age. A sponsor acts like a coach, advisor and sparring partner for
their charge. Ideally, each sponsor only has one charge, but if we have
a lack of sponsors we will allow some sponsors to double up and have
multiple charges. A sponsor should advise, review matches and spar with
their charges.
Too register send a message to me stating what you would like to sign up
as.

Format:
Alright, let me explain a few things first and foremost since I am sure
a few people are not going to be familiar with the various forms of
tournaments.
~Single Elimination: Done in a bracket with preset matches where if you
lose in one match, you are eliminated from the entire tournament.
~Round Robin: Every individual or team of the tournament fights every
single other member of the tournament, the best win/loss record wins.
~Group Round Robin: Participants are divided into groups of five to six,
where each group has their own individual round robin, the best
records(anywhere from one, to three of each group) advance to the next
stage.
Here is the format of this tournament. We are going for a round robin,
if we have under eight participants, and group round robin with two
groups if we have eight or more. If we have seven or less, we will take
the best two records and have a finals round, best of three to decide
the winner.
If we have eight or more, we are doing two groups with best two records
advancing to stage two, and participating in a single elimination
semifinals and finals, best two of three match.
So, for example. If Competitors A through E are in one group, and F
through J are in another. And the magnificently powerful C advances with
a record of 5-0 in group 1, and D has a record of 4-1, and everyone else
is 3-2 or below. C and D advance to stage 2 against the two best of
Group 2, but there seems to be a hitch.
J and H tied for 1st in Group 2 with a record of 4-1. Well, since J beat
H, in their preliminary match, J advances. H shows how much of a spoil
sport he is and quits the tournament even though he would have been in
second place and still advanced. So that leaves F G and I tied for
second. Well, normally we would have a tie breaker between the three,
but since G beat both F and I, she advances. Thankfully there was no
triangle win dilemma. That would require a tie breaker which each fights
one more round against the other two to attempt to bring out the most
capable.
And the part you all have been waiting for..
