"Woe to anyone who befriends evil. True friends do not seek to change
one another therefore this way leads only to corruption.
Many of you have already heard about the Lady Auresae. Her tenets of
Fire, Light, Faith and Purity are no secret, and for those of you who do
not know them, I would be happy to help explain them should you but seek
me out. This is not a sermon about My Lady's teachings, but rather one
of Her love and forgiveness for those who have seen too much of darkness
and wish to walk in the Light. It doesn't matter how long you have
lived, shrouded in the inky black of night, or your reasons for doing
so; All that matters is that you have seen your sins, are repulsed by
them, and are taken by a sincere desire to dwell once again in the
Light.
There is a story, one that might not be so well-known in this day and
age, of a woman named Malorea. What is common knowledge is that she is
the High Priestess of Lady Auresae, Goddess of Fire, but before she
became such, she was a willing servant of the darkness. She started out
ordinarily enough, and fell in love with a man named Willem, and they
were married. Soon after that, they both began to follow the path of
Lord Rahn, but while Willem was fully devoted to his Lord and served him
as his heart desired, Malorea's love was for Willem and not his Lord.
Malorea began to want something more and, having previously studied
forbidden arts, resumed her research into them. Her thirst for power led
her to accept the embrace of Belladona, becoming one of her handmaidens.
Malorea lost all personal identity, being only concubine to the undead
queen. She was proud of what she had become, thinking her achievement to
be perfection. Meanwhile, Willem, who had become the High Invoker of
Fire, used all power available to him to search for Malorea. He searched
everywhere and finally realized that she'd been embraced by Belladona.
Even when Malorea learned of his search, she did not seem to care for
him or his efforts, serving only her queen and driven by her power and
thirsting for more.
The part that follows is important to note.
Malorea, knowing that Willem would be hurting after his Lord's passing,
desired to be with him again. Belladona had long since been cured, and
she no longer had a queen to serve. Under cover of the darkness that
shrouded the realms after Lord Rahn's passing, she traveled to His
volcano and hid there, waiting for her husband. She was forced to reveal
herself by Talonnb and Kaestrin, but was able to persuade Kaestrin to
take a note to her former mistress, afraid to enter the Beacon lest she
should be in conflict with their laws. Other people came to visit her
there, and it was from them that she learned of her husband's passing.
She was confused at this, thinking her search a lie and her feelings
that were lost then rediscovered were naught but a hallucination, but
she couldn't yet know that he and Lady Auresae were both working in her
life now.
To make a long story short, yeah I know, too late, but to wrap this up
quickly, Belladona provided her with a list of what she needed for the
cure, and she left to get it. She found Wilhelm at every step of the
way, helping her out. She took the ingredients back to Belladona who
brewed her cure, and Willem held her hand as she stood ready to jump
into the volcano. Before she hit the flames she experienced a lifetime's
memories, and she was sitting with an ebony woman clad in white, and
they spoke of many things. While the handmaiden of Belladona was dying,
Lady Auresae taught her how to live.
She awoke outside the cave and Searoth took her to the Pillar of Auresae
where she was given the ring of service and made the High Priestess by
Lady Auresae.
You can see by this tale that the Lady's love and kindness are great,
that nobody sought to change Malorea though they truly cared about her.
She had to change on her own, to realize her mistake and her desire to
return to the Light, but she was accepted back without judgement on her
past, but on her sincerity to serve Light once more.
I have experienced the love and forgiveness of My Lady personally,
having once been one of the undead myself, and I would welcome any who
seek to change and turn from the darkness to speak with myself or one of
Lady Auresae's representatives - Talonnb, Rivas, or Saradin, and we'll
help you find your way.
For those who wish to learn more of Malorea, you can read 'The Story of
Malorea, Priestess of Fire', and if you wish to know more of Lady
Auresae, you might find the scroll 'Cornerstones of Auresae' helpful to
you, both written by Daskalos Qefin.
