An Apology Offered

I'm sorry I was born - isn't that what made this start?
Please understand it's not my fault my body has a heart.
And the fire that you lit within was not there by my choice
Perhaps I should have cut off my ears, so as not to hear your voice.

When I had the chance to let go, I couldn't, as you saw.
Please pardon me for this weakness; I'm like all mortals - flawed.
We went so far, I burned my wings when I was first able to fly.
You'll have to forgive me for my tears - I never promised not to cry.

The fault is mine for not keeping up, and instead plummeting below.
If I'd been able to fly with you I would not have worried so.
I'm sorry I won't join you in your flight across the sky,
But my wings once charred in flight will never again go so high.

So let me apologize prematurely for what will doubtedly occur again;
I just can't regret caring so much about such a true friend.

Penned by my hand on the 4th of Severin, in the year 113 MA.
