Silence

Devotions echoing back in murmured susurrations,
The emptiness so loud, twisting my frustrations,
In darkness sinks my mind, shades of endless grey,
Until I have forgotten just why it is I prayed.

This silence so rife with all things that are not,
Each halcyon dream rendered a nightmarish spot,
Whereupon eddies such enticements coil round,
In veiled shimmers that give chase long after sundown.

Deafening, this quietude, a somnolent seduction,
To draw the soul deeper with each barren percussion,
A voice, a song, a whisper - yearning to perceive,
Until the warmth of daybreak grants me her reprieve.

Penned by my hand on Quensday, the 15th of Lleian, in the year 495 MA.
