the Law of the Lawn

Eternally the Gardener stands at the mansion's gate;
there is a flower in his hands, but in his eyes is hate.
Whoever comes to near to him will feel his batt'ring fist
or have his mind all choked by fear like by a clammy mist.
What is it that enrages him at visitors so sore?
Why are his fingers dripping with their marrow, blood and gore?
Because there stands a little sign, unseen by those who pass.
The message that it reads is this: DO NOT WALK ON THE GRASS!

Penned by my hand on the 20th of Lleian, in the year 79 MA.
