Bite of an Asp

Unexpected to say the least, when you came into my world
Hit me like a cyclone and my entire life swirled
I'd never let it happen, I always used to say
But a choice I did not have on that fateful day
Some say love at first sight, but now I beg to disagree
For you were some sort of a succubus when you captured me
I was under your spell before I could resist
And you sucked me down slowly into your dark abyss
At first it was the best, I thought I was "the man"
Too foolish was I to notice that it was all your plan
The greatest crime of all was your only goal
The murder of a heart and for a trophy, perhaps a soul
When things between us became stormy, I often blamed myself
I wasn't being sensitive enough to the way you felt
These lies I often told myself to give false hope that we'd survive
We would work things out, our love was still alive
Oh! How I tried to please you, but my best was not enough
I even exposed my innermost feelings and believe me that was tough
But then you said you never loved me, a thought I could not grasp
And then your venom took effect, like the bite of an asp
So now I slowly melt here in this living Hell
Can I ever be saved? Only Father Time will tell
