Poetry News Post #1481

Unfortunately, you don't know what you are.

You may laugh at our cause, but we've never stood apart.
Where your life may be empty, beating fiercely are our hearts.
Protected by your weak stone walls, dependant on your lamps of oil.
You've never known the strength of living off the land, the toil.
You'll never known its bounty, you'll never know its worth.
You're no more than a parasite feeding off the earth.
Look at what you take and examine what you give back.
When the scales are finally measured, where does the weight stack?
We're guardians of everything that's wild and is pure.
We look past all deceptions, into ourselves and we're sure
That the life we lead is meaningful that the love we give, gives back.
We can look at each other in the eyes and know that as a pack
We're undefeated, we can't be touched, we'll never flee and hide.
We've given ourselves to the power of Nature and in turn it's on -our-
side.
You ask yourself before you tell me to look objectively
What is it you stand for, what sets your spirit free?
Besides pursuit of pleasure and avoidance of feared pain
Have you ever stopped to gaze into the sky and feel the rain?
Do you understand the beauty that is hiking through the Vashnars?
Can you appreciate a roaring campfire underneath the night's stars?
Compose yourself, find your feet, don't get caught in the snow.
Some people live their lives never knowing where to go.
Doing nothing but harassing the poet with a cause.
Criticizing their convictions, without realizing their own flaws.
The Sentinels stand true, we have resolve that'll never be deterred.
Especially not by a meaningless nag who decides he has a word
And a need to pester a proud guild whose only fault is a passion.
Look inside yourself and find out what convictions your heart fashions.

- Of the Sentinels, Lion Khristianyr

Penned by my hand on the 2nd of Khepary, in the year 199 MA.
