The Goblin of Azdun
By Brother Sife Corey
----------
Deep within Azdun keep, the goblin lost his mind.
He had grown old, his back was bent, the years had not been kind.
'For many years, I have been here, my time, my blood, I gave,
but naught have I been treated well, naught better than a slave!'
He had been living in those caves for many years, 'tis true,
and though he had worked hard this life, he wanted more to do.
He went unto his elders and asked for more respect,
but though he pleaded very hard, they were treated with neglect.
And so the goblin left the room with heavy heart in tow;
'I gave my youth and in return have nothing for to show!'
In sleep that night, he had a dream and woke with thoughts quite ill;
'They treat me badly in my work, so all of them, I'll kill!'
And taking dagger in his hand, he crept through hall and cave,
and every goblin he did find, his rage he doth them gave.
He naught stopped there, for anger filled, his bloodlust was not sate,
he slew the spiders, faeries too, and graveyard in his hate.
And when Azdun was empty, he then leaned on wall and smiled.
'My work is done, I shall not suffer more, they've been defiled.'
But 'lo! Who should then enter but a single hunter there,
who saw the goblin sitting at the bottom of the stair.
And thinking he was starting to attack one of a horde,
he slew the single goblin with a few jabs of his sword.
And then he found, to his dismay, the corpses piled 'round,
and though he checked quite everywhere, he did not hear a sound.
So if you find a single goblin in Azdun and then,
find all the others slain already in this darkened den,
Do not then think you've come in vain to someone else's shirk,
for the single living goblin there perhaps did all that work!
