One Becomes Two

They say that in the Rites of Unity, two become one.
Souls and hearts merge, blood for blood and spirits immortally
intertwined.
But I have felt the unity undone
And while two become one, when they divide again,
They are not two, but only two halves of one.
It is a mystery of numbers not even Eocik could ponder
When an entire being is lost as two coalesce, then diverge -
Where does that lost being go?
How is it that having lost my mate twice over,
I can be both half of a soul, and a lost being?

Penned by my hand on the 16th of Lleian, in the year 176 MA.
