The Hashan War

The keening of young Hashanite lizards pierced the night air. Lizardfolk
tradition was broken when their children fled the safety of their
houses, crying out in terror. Their mothers, the city's matrons,
similarly called for help from the Aetolian populace. Rumor had it that
the Hashan Trolls were planning to slaughter the lizardfolk and fear was
rampant. The lizardfolk leader, Siatheen, proudly boasted that his
trained scouts and guards could defend against any Troll attempt,
ignoring any offers of aid from bystanders and attempting to restrain
the "shameful" pleading of the women and children.

Not long after, the rumors proved correct. While the Troll King Zuljin
supervised from his throne room, the self-proclaimed Prince Yhog, his
subordinate Alamar, and a band of Troll warriors stormed in, slaying
every lizardfolk in their path. While Siatheen courageously defended his
home against the aggressors, sneering at those who lent their help to
his cause, a handful of children and a resourceful matron escaped with
the help of Daelin and Thalian. Reports suggest they were locked away in
the Magi guildhall, terrified of further Troll violence.

Though only one child would fall in the invasion, Siatheen and his
allies littered the streets with their broken bodies and steaming blood.
The lizardfolk had fallen and the Trolls were victorious. A few days
later, Zuljin declared that he would claim Siatheen's territory as his
new palace and soon populated it with freshly zealous Troll warriors.
Under Prince Yhog's tutelage and provision, some of the guards learned
how better to defend themselves and were thus promoted to "sentries".

Years of relative peace followed. The Captain of the Hashan Guard, Bokag
of Mostyn, further tried to teach his underlings advanced techniques,
and King Zuljin often boasted of Trollish might. After a long period of
rest and recuperation, attempting to come to terms with what had
happened, the lizardfolk felt confident enough to begin anew among the
dunes of the Mhojave.

This peace was not to last. On the 25th of Chakros, year 158, Zuljin was
found murdered alongside his trusted sentries. Accusations as to who
commited the crime are plenty, but the true identity of the murderer has
not yet been determined.

Penned by my hand on the 25th of Niuran, in the year 159 MA.
