Early one fine Aetolian morning, a group of Shallam's citizens engaged
in a laughing debate. They were trying to prove to each other and the
land which of them was, in fact, the smelliest. Unfortunately, their
resounding shouts disturbed a large colony of skunks who were nesting on
the edge of the Pash Valley. Outraged at this disturbance of their
peace, the skunks rushed in a mass of black fur upon the city of
Shallam, spraying all in their path with their unique scent. Soon, every
street of the city was overwhelmed with the smelly pests. At the behest
of an unusually pungent Averroes, the forces of Shallam bravely covered
their noses and proceeded to destroy the furry annoyances. As a memento
of the unusual event, Averroes ordered a special rug made of skunk
pelts, left to remind himself and the city that all words, however
minor, may have unexpected consequences.
