Rebirth of a Goddess

The feud between the Sister Goddesses Omei and Iosyne had been an
Epochs-long quarrel well-known to many. After succumbing to an opium
haze that riddled Her mind with fog, the Divine Muse was lured into a
false sense of security by Her Sister, the Unfettered Nightmare.
Unbeknownst to Her, the Goddess Omei had conspired with Maghak, the
Sovereign, to plot Iosyne's downfall, and together They slew Her. The
Nightmare took Her eyes, while the Sovereign laid claim to Her heart.

Her body mutilated and destroyed, the essence of Iosyne drifted without
form for years. It was not until Her remains were recovered by the
shadowy forces of the sunken castle of Azdun did She regain enough of
Her strength to reform it.

Llazuth, the Demon Spider Queen of the Black Keep, and her trusted
servant Lachesis, had worked tirelessly to restore the essence of the
Goddess back into a mortal shell. Using her shadow power, Llazuth
offered up the Mistress of Spiders as a shell for the former Muse,
pledging allegience in exchange for Her cooperation in destroying the
Spider Queen's hated rival, Zsarachnor.

In an explosion of vortex energy, the essence of Iosyne merged with the
mortal form of Lachesis, the forces of Llazuth's shadow power warping
Her form into a half-spider body. The deal struck between Demon and
Goddess was sealed with the collapse of the lower mines of Azdun,
crushing the vampire lord Zsarachnor and ending his reign over Azdun for
good. With his death, so too ended the Demon Queen's imprisonment. The
tear in reality linking Azdun to the Keep stabilized for a final time,
permitting her and her loyals to leave for the first time in an age.

Llazuth and her Dark Empire now swear fealty to the Goddess, who now
refers to Herself as the Malevolent. The years spent without a shell
have fostered a psyche that now burns with hatred and vengeance for Her
Sister, and by extension all things held sacred to the Artist.
