After a Cabalist experiment inadvertently opened the way into an ancient
Ankyrean chamber beneath their city, the citizens of Spinesreach busied
themselves with locating components to repair the planar orrery housed
within. Long months passed until, finally, it was complete, and a group
of citizens gathered around the device as the Cabalist Eleanor inserted
the final component and pulled the activation lever.
An orphan girl, resident of the Catacombs, was seized by an otherworldly
force as the orrery shook and began to move, and asserted that the
device was once again functional. The ghost of Vusbati, the ancient
curator of the hall, spoke through her, sharing secrets of the Conclave
of Science; that is, once a citizen with sufficient rank was found to
countermand his long-ago-given orders and restore the facility's
connection to the leyline beneath the Citadel.
After revealing the nature of the original Atabahi, and the existence of
an eons-old planar fracture, it became clear that the ghost would not
leave his possessor willingly. It took the combined efforts of several
citizens, as well as the physical threatening of the orrery itself, to
dislodge the spirit from the tormented orphan, who collapsed and was
remanded to the care of Kelliara and the Atabahi.
The machinery of the ancient Conclave of Science now hums beneath the
Citadel, waiting the reckless or careful to ferret out its secrets.
