In labyrinthine depths where echoes drone,
A feeble beast gnaws foolishly on stone,
With brittle jaws and worn-out teeth,
He chews on rocks in twilight beneath.
His hunger vast, but strength is none,
Devouring earth for mindless fun,
Each boulder cracked, each pebble ground,
His clueless feast, a pitiful sound.
He roams the maze, a weak, sad spree,
Stalactites and stalagmites, he nibbles with glee,
From ancient bonds, stones old and grey,
A senseless feast, all night and day.
Marble and limestone, quartz and slate,
He devours all with empty pate,
Lost in circles, his efforts a jest,
A hapless creature, forever oppressed.
