Salvage, specifically "antiquated artifact salvage" has a chance to appear within a cryptic chest, much like any other prize. This specific item is taken to Qeddwyn, who can exchange it. The syntaxes are in HELP ANTIQUATED ARTIFACTS.

This may be done at any time. You can hold on to your salvage as long as you like. You can sell it, you can buy it! Hoard it away if you hate the current Antiquated Artifact. Do not eat it. The Pools are not responsible for the results of eating ancient Ankyrean artifacts.
