Cartographers needed

Announcing a grand contest for the cartographers of Aetolia! The world
is in need of maps for the Aetolia web site, and the Aetolian
Cartographers Guild is apparently not up to the task (the lazy pukes).
Thus, we are holding a contest for player-submitted maps. The winner(s)
will receive fabulous prizes, the acclaim of their peers, and the
adoration of women (or men).

-Two classes of map will be considered: artistic and detail. Detail maps
should include all non-hidden rooms and connections between them in the
area or areas depicted. We prefer the maps do not blatantly give away
secret exits and such, but a visual hint of some sort can be provided to
indicate that something is more interesting about that location or
region. Rooms that most people don't need to know about (like guild hall
interiors) may be omitted at the cartographer's discretion, but it
should be evident that a larger structure is there. Detail maps will be
judged on accuracy, completeness, and aesthetic quality. Artistic maps
will be judged on aesthetic quality and, to a lesser extent, accuracy.

-Winners will receive credit prizes and be forever recognized in their
honors as Cartographers of Aetolia. The amount of the prizes will depend
on the relative size of the winning maps and their quality. Of
particular interest are maps of Sapience and of each of the 3 cities,
but all maps of Aetolia geography will be considered.

-This is a contest, so expect competition. As we will no doubt receive
multiple submissions for certain maps, whatever you can do to make yours
look nicer will give you an edge. It's possible that multiple maps of
the same area will be selected if they are of extremely high quality.

-Do not plagiarize. All submissions must be entirely your own work. If
you are caught plagiarizing the work of others, you will spend the rest
of your days mapping your own pretty green leaves.

-As with the bardic and artisanal contests, winning maps become the
property of Aetolia LLC. Authors will be granted permission to display
their works on their own sites.

-Entries should be sent to support@aetolia.com with the subject
"Cartography contest." PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR CHARACTER'S NAME in the
e-mail so we know who to reward. Entries should be in GIF or JPG format,
no larger than 640x480 in dimension. This contest will run for 16
Aetolian months - all submissions should be sent by January 15, 2002.

Good luck!

-Varian

Penned by my hand on the 18th of Variach, in the year 60 MA.
